  • Snowshoe Fest (Feb 13, 2010)

    Spend the day at an outpost of empire in the mid-18th century. Snowshoeing, games of snow snakes, winter foods and beverages and much more. Snowshoe Patrol and woods battle at 1 pm by advance reservation only. Call (716) 745-7611 for reservations.

  • Winter Camp for Kids (Feb 16 - Feb 18, 2010)

    Children 8-12 are invited to engage in a wintertime adventure as Old Fort Niagara hosts its third annual Winter Camp for Kids, Tuesday through Thursday February 16, 17 and 18. During three day-long sessions, kids will snowshoe, light a campfire with flint and steel, race with fur traders, read a compass, write with a quill pen, cook a colonial meal, build a fort model and crack an 18th century code. Cost is $120.00, pre registration required. Call (716) 745-7611.

    Dr. Roger Carpenter of the University of Louisiana at Monroe will present “Kinship and Gender Terms in Anglo-Native Diplomacy.”  Old Fort Niagara Visitor Center 2 pm.

    The American Long Rifle Association will sponsor a special event at Old Fort Niagara focusing on how common people survived on the New York frontier during the 18th century.

  • Cabin Fever Lecture (Mar 27, 2010)

    Dr. Timothy J. Shannon, Chair of the History Department at Gettysburg College, author of Iroquois Diplomacy and Indians and Colonists at the Crossroads of Empire: The Albany Congress of 1754 will speak at 2 pm in the Old Fort Niagara Visitor Center.

  • Cabin Fever Lecture (May 1, 2010)

    Dr. David L. Preston, Associate Professor of History at the Citadel, will speak at the Old Fort Niagara Visitor Center at 2 pm. Preston is author of The Texture of Contact: European and Indian Settler Communities on the Frontier of Iroquoia 1667-1783.

  • French Heritage Day (May 7, 2010)

    Middle and high school students encounter over 20 interpretive stations demonstrating life in New France during the early 18th century. Among the topics are French architecture, music, food, medicine, religion, travel, folklore, military life, diplomacy and fortification. Many interactive stations.
